The lecture sequence “Wholesome Dwelling” begins on June 1st, latitude 65

The University of Alaska Fairbanks is hosting the Healthy Living Lecture Series starting June 1st, featuring a variety of medical specialists and experts.

The free 11-lecture series is presented by UAF Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning. The presentations can be viewed in person on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. at the BP Design Theater on the fourth floor of the ELIF building on the UAF Fairbanks campus. Mike Powers, former CEO of Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, is coordinating this year’s series and will be hosting each lecture.

Masks are required for non-vaccinated people attending the events. The presentations will also be broadcast at media.uaf.edu and then published on the Summer Sessions website at www.uaf.edu/summer/events.

The series begins with Allan Katz, former US Ambassador to Portugal, on “Building Healthy Communities: Resetting Expectations – The Need for Civil Discourse”. Katz is the founder and CEO of American Public Square, an organization that brings like-minded people together for civil, fact-based dialogue on polarization issues. An outdoor reception will follow.

July 20 – “COVID-19/20/21 – Lessons Learned”, Dr. Mishelle Nace, pediatrician, Tanana Valley Clinic

July 27th – “Food Allergies: Reactions, Risks, and Resources”, Dr. Tony Bonitatibus, Allergist, Tanana Valley Clinic

August 3rd – “Healthy life after 55: living, exercise, behavioral health, driving and other realities”, Dr. Clay Triplehorn, Family Medicine, and Dr. Daniel McCulley, Geriatrics and Family Medicine, Tanana Valley Clinic

August 10th – “Breast Cancer Reconstruction”, Dr. Erick Martell, plastic surgeon, Tanana Valley Clinic
