Report: Zooey Deschanel is a co-founder of the Wholesome Dwelling App

A Hollywood actress known for her fragmented roles helps rationally motivate consumers to buy organic and health-focused foods, as well as CPG brands.

According to People, Zooey Deschanel, who starred on the hit TV show “New Girl” and currently hosts the game show “The Celebrity Dating Game,” is the co-founder and chief creative officer of a new consumer app called Merryfield. The free app, currently available in the Apple App Store, offers consumers rewards points with every purchase of products from select health-focused brands such as Beyond Meat, Essential Oils and The Honest Company.

When a customer purchases a qualifying product, they can scan and submit their paper receipt or send their digital receipt directly to Merryfield. Users then receive points that can be used towards receiving gift cards from retailers such as Amazon, Target, Starbucks, and Panera. Some products offer additional bonus points. Merryfield donates 1% of its sales directly to the non-profit organization No Kid Hungry for the hunger of children.

“Having a rewards program that focuses on healthy eating is a great way to help people make healthier choices,” Deschanel told People. “They want people to be able to vote on these companies with their money, so I think it’s just about improving access to information.”

Merryfield has not publicly discussed its profit model.
