Native nutritionist reappointed as spokesperson for the Academy of Diet and Dietetics | Residing wholesome
Nancy Farrell Allen, who has a private medical nutritional therapy practice in Fredericksburg, was reappointed for an additional three-year term as media spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals.
The academy’s 29 speakers “are the food and nutrition experts,” according to a press release. As volunteers on behalf of the academy, they conduct thousands of interviews each year on nutrition and healthy eating in print, radio and online media.
Farrell Allen’s specialties include eating disorders and nutritional psychotherapy; Food allergies; Food labels and how to read them; Legislation and policy issues; and natural and organically grown foods.
Farrell Allen runs Farrell Dietitian Services and is a nutrition teacher at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and Germanna Community College. She has worked in public policy, served as a nutritionist on the Working Group of the Virginia Governor’s Health Reform Commission from 2006 to 2007, and was appointed to the Virginia Governor’s Pediatric Nutrition Health Council in 2015.
