Nationwide Males’s Well being Month; Elevating consciousness of a wholesome life-style

June is the National Men’s Health Month. This is a time to raise awareness of men’s health care and encourage boys, men, and their families to practice and implement healthy living choices. This is important to note as many men fail to realize how the passage of time affects their metabolism and fitness.
The 83-year-old Don Schiller experienced exactly this scenario, although he remained active his entire life. As he gained weight, he faced the prospect of spinal surgery to relieve chronic back and neck pain. Instead, he first decided to contact Nick Brown, Health & Fitness Director at Touchmark Health & Fitness Club.
“I’d never considered using a personal trainer before, but I sat down with Nick for analysis and told him I wanted to lose 30 pounds and then keep them off afterwards. I wanted to continue with my daily exercises, but Nick asked if I would consider changing my routine. I said I would do what he recommended because I wanted his knowledge and experience. I just wanted to be able to train for the next 10 years or more, ”says Schiller.
Together, he and Brown have conducted a number of reviews and created a wellness plan designed for Schiller to help achieve his goal of losing fat and replacing it with muscle mass. Before that, Schiller was an ordinary swimmer. He was surprised when Brown suggested swimming just two days a week and adding weight training and cardio on the treadmill and rowing machine to his program.
Take a holistic view of wellness
Brown’s change in diet came as another surprise. “Maintaining physical activity is critical, but you also need to feed your body with healthy foods that don’t add unnecessary pounds,” explains Brown. Since Schiller lives at Touchmark, Brown was able to speak to Touchmark boss Erik Stieber when he was planning the proposals.
Schiller says: “We changed my diet, especially for breakfast. I can eat yogurt, granola, and egg whites (I’d never heard of egg whites!), And I ate a lot less bread. I now eat avocados and cottage cheese and you don’t have to eat the same things every day. I change what I eat just like I do with exercise. “
Take back control and see results
After working with Brown for six months, Schiller lost the weight and managed to keep it off. He doesn’t need the operation either. He sees Brown as his partner in wellness for long-term health.
“I’m ready to do more things, and I told Nick the other day that I wanted to sit down with him again and reevaluate. I’ve reached my goal of getting to 150 pounds. I can control my weight and stay there. So what’s the next step to move on? It was a fantastic experience. I wasn’t easy to convince, but now that I’ve done it and see that it works, I am telling my story to other people. “
The power to act
Both Schiller and Brown recognize the importance of being fully committed to a lifestyle change when you embrace it. Brown says, “Don is incredibly dedicated to the exercise program we created. He accepted the assessments and motion screens along the way. Most importantly, he should focus on strength training-specific movement patterns twice a week, vary his cardiovascular training three times a week, and do the mobility exercises daily. “
