MILWAUKEE – Some cyclists chose to weather the weather on Saturday June 26th. Rain or shine, the Westlawn Gardens community wanted to meet for their annual family bike event.
“You have done bike rides for the past few years, so I’m really looking forward to revitalizing it and making it a sustainable thing for the future,” said Michael Anderson of Wisconsin Bike Fed.
Community leaders are excited to bring the annual gathering back this year – to support their mission to promote a healthier community.
“I want the community to pull together,” said Jackie Burrell, president of Westlawn Resident Council. “There’s so much crime out here and I have a goal for the community. My goal is for the community to pull together.”
“You need to know that we are here and still positive and that there is a lot of positive work going on,” said Sally Yeldell, Westlawn Gardens Community Ambassador.

People also handed out 200 healthy lunches so everyone was energized for their three mile drive. And Special Guest Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes came out to show his support.
“I just want to congratulate you all and thank you all for everything you are doing to make sure people stay active,” said Barnes. “This is not only how we build communities, but this is how we build families to help make those communities last longer.”
