Meals Podcast: Why Donors Put money into Wholesome Meals

In this episode of the Food Podcast presented by the Clearview Federal Credit Union, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank talks to the Arconic Foundation about why helping local communities was so important during the pandemic.

Before the pandemic, the food bank launched the Grow, Share Thrive campaign, which aimed to expand the warehouse and enable the warehouse to house and distribute 50% of the products.

The Arconic Foundation has donated $ 375,000 to the Tafel since 2020 to help meet this goal and provide assistance during the pandemic.

“If you look at an organization like the blackboard that doesn’t know any color, it doesn’t know any age, it doesn’t know any religion. It knows that the people in the community need help. They need survival and food to grow and feed. … It was just an easy decision (to give). When you think of the number of people who have lost their jobs, who have lost their support during Covid, food scarcity is one of the most critical areas, ”said Diana Toman, executive vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary of Arconic Corp. and President and Board Member of the Arconic Foundation.

The Arconic Foundation focuses on equity and sustainability in deciding where to donate. The renovated warehouse will be LEED certified and have a permanent on-site pantry with refrigerated lockers to facilitate access for those in need of grocery assistance.

“One of the things Covid is fighting is staying healthy, and one of the things I personally appreciate about the Food Bank is that you not only make sure that people have food, but that they have nutritious food too “said Toman.
