Farmer’s Market Vouchers Assist Native Farmers Supply Wholesome Meals | Chickasaw diary

RIPLEY • The Three Rivers Area Agency on Aging is now offering a Senior Farmers Market Program that is giving away $ 25 worth of vouchers that can be redeemed for products sold in farmers markets in eight counties – including Chickasaw – in the Three Rivers District.

The aim of the program is to help farmers in the area and provide healthy food to seniors, program officials said this week.

Seniors aged 60 and over are entitled to the vouchers.

According to Wade Holland, the SHIP Medicare Counselor for the Area Agency on Aging Program, every Three Rivers County receives 300 coupons.

“Each recipient receives five $ 5 vouchers that they can redeem at a farmers’ market. You must sign an application stating that you are 60 years old and make less than $ 50,000 a year.

“We want to help our local farmers and also help older people. We want to make sure they have access to healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, eggs and honey that are available in the markets.

“The voucher will expire on September 25, 2021.”

Holland said Three Rivers will work with supervisors in each county to get them the vouchers. Those interested should contact their local supervisor for more information.

The counties that will receive the vouchers are Calhoun, Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Monroe, Pontotoc, and Union.
