Cooks Magic Up Wholesome Meals For Covid Sufferers, Their Households Pune Information

PUNE: Many chefs in the city have joined the initiative to offer free meals to Covid-19 patients in their area.
Bhavesh Utmani, an IT professional who is head chef on weekends, said, “My parents and I tested positive for Covid-10 last month and were at home in quarantine. It was difficult for us to prepare meals so we hired a tiffin service. However, my parents didn’t like the food. When I was recovering, I signed up on the Covid Meals for India online portal to isolate Covid patients and offer free meals to their families. ”
“We package the same food that we cook and deliver at home and around Yerawada and Wakad,” he added.
Chef Saransh Goila, founder of the online portal, said: “At any given time there are over 2 lakh users at Covid Meals for India, which are mainly designed to solve the problem of food management during this time. What started as a spreadsheet has now grown into a website with over 3,000 volunteers across India, over 190 of whom are from Pune. ”
Bibvewadi resident Tanya Dingreja joined the initiative to deal with her father’s recent death.
“I quit my job and couldn’t concentrate on anything. Since I like to cook and feed others, my sister got the idea to join this initiative. Many people donated small amounts of money, fruit and other raw materials, and my family also participated. While I cook, my children pack the meals and my husband delivers them. We manage to send 35 meals a day, ”she said.
Apurva Arora from Kharadi takes orders before 3 p.m. and delivers dinner to Covid patients and their families while she does her daily work as an IT professional.
“I prepare healthy and nutritious meals, including vegetables, fruits and protein for Covid patients. Eating the right kind of food is important to recovery. The patient family who cares for them also need proper meals. One of my first deliveries was to an elderly couple who came to Pune because their son and daughter were being hospitalized here. I could help with meals so at least one less thing to worry about, ”she said.
While many pay out of pocket for raw materials, packaging and supplies, some charge a face value.
“As of last week, we’ve been offering healthy meals Monday through Thursday for quarantined and recovering patients and healthcare workers who cannot prepare or arrange their own meals. We only charge the cost of raw materials, ”said Abhimanyu Sen, a chef.
There are plenty of other chefs doing the same thing independently in their area.
