College students on the Richardson internship program acquire wholesome meals for youngsters in want

The Richardson Mayor’s Summer Internship Program is now fundraising through August 5th for kid-friendly snacks for the Healthy Kids Snack Drive.

The healthy snacks needed for the donation include fruit cups, cereal cups, oatmeal cups, applesauce, juice boxes, macaroni and cheese cups, and soup cups.

The snack trip is organized by high school students in the program and benefits families in need. The articles will be distributed at the Richardson ISD Backpack Bash on August 7th at Richardson High School. All leftover items are distributed to the children of the region, who are looked after by the network of municipal ministries.

Donations can be made in person or online using the RMSIP Healthy Kids Snack Drive.

“In its fourth year, the Richardson Mayor’s summer internship program gives high school teenagers a professional job, but the life lessons extend well beyond the office walls,” said Richardson’s Mayor Paul Voelker in a prepared statement. “We also teach them how to give back through community service and programs like this food drive. Our interns learn about the social responsibility that comes with receiving a paycheck. I am so proud of these makers and appreciate their hard work helping our families. “
