11. The wire
Despite the growth of digital-only news organizations in India, there is no single entity representing the country’s digital news ecosystem. The DIGIPUB News India Foundation was established to represent, expand and develop best practices to build a robust digital news ecology that is truly world-class, independent and adheres to the highest standards of journalism.
One of the goals of the foundation is to underline the fact that the activities and interests of older media may not always coincide with those of digital media – especially with regard to regulation, business models, technology and structures. The DIGIPUB News India Foundation was established to address the need for an organization to advocate and accurately represent the interests of exclusively digital news media.
One of the most important defining aspects of the foundation is that it does not believe that only organizations should represent or express the needs of the digital news ecosystem. It is imperative to recognize the contribution of independent journalists to the formation of the bulwark of this ecosystem. Membership in the DIGIPUB News India Foundation is open to independent / freelance journalists working in the digital news ecosystem.
The foundation hopes to use the best practices of legacy media to tailor them specifically to the needs of digital media. The caliber of journalism and news brands that have emerged from, and can emerge from, digital space holds great potential that can create a golden age for exclusively digital news media. The DIGIPUB News India Foundation looks forward to the support and collaboration of journalists, entrepreneurs, news professionals and news consumers to promote an organization that represents, defines and protects this pure digital news ecosystem.
